Squids and Squid Races

Doug asked:
>>>> I have to bite on this one! Why do you always refer to us as "squids". I know you're a marine biologist (cool off Major Dave v K, it's not Marine), why does that make us squids?
  1. Squids are cool. They have highly complex eyes that are an example of convergent evolution. They have enormous nerves for neurobiologists. They flash at each other during play or mating. Kinda like the Taunt and Pose Phase. All of these traits are necessary for reading and understanding the ASLRB.
  2. They are all arms, and tentacles like most guys. Makes em good at rolling dice. [NB: male squids reach inside themselves with a specially modified tentacle to pull out a spermatophore and hand it to the female. Kinda kinky, huh! Now I can say I'm using this list for marine education!]
  3. Sounds better than jarheads, GI Joes, Squad Leaders, tars, leathernecks, etc. I also have a friend whose nickname is Squid (beats Cameron his real name ;-).
  4. But the real reason is it originated from a time when a friend called me over to his house for some Squid Racing. When I queried him further he said, "You know lead the squids over some advanced terrain.... ASL."
  5. Guess, I just can't shake the habit.
Cheers, Jeff
